Learn More About The HC Coalition's Nu-Start

The Hamilton County Coalition provides a host of initiatives and programs designed to empower recovery and prevent overdose, addiction, and death. The NU-START Program is one of The Coalition’s Initiatives offering comprehensive wrap-around services to those who need them most.  You may be familiar with the phrase, “Wrap-around Services,” or you may have no clue what the term means.

Let’s look at the importance of programs such as NU-START and the value they offer to the individuals seeking help and the people who support them.  A good definition of Wrap-Around Services is in order.

According to Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS) Wraparound Service and Positive Behavior Support is defined as:

Wraparound is a philosophy of care with defined planning process used to build constructive relationships and support networks among students and youth with emotional or behavioral disabilities (EBD) and their families. It is community-based, culturally relevant, individualized, strength based, and family-centered. Wraparound plans are comprehensive and address multiple life domains across home, school, and community, including living environment; basic needs; safety; and social, emotional, educational, spiritual, and cultural needs.

In laymen’s terms, Wraparound services are coordinated supportive services designed to remove barriers to achieving the best outcomes for a person suffering from a life-debilitating disorder such as substance abuse disorder, special educational needs or mental health disorders and conditions.

Wraparound is designed to coordinate care across the spectrum of needs of a person seeking and needing supportive assistance to address the primary life-threatening condition such as addiction.
